The materialization of God’s presence in the form of a statue gives people the strength and will to intensify their belief, that despite a frequent and difficult obstacles, there is a VICTORY at the end of everything.
To worship and praise the God, buildings such a churches, temples, basilicas, chapels, cathedrals and monasteries are used. Prior to the official recognition of Christianity as the religion of the Roman Empire, in ancient times, Christians didn’t need any special places of worship to perform their rites. During this period, people used multi-level, often several kilometers long catacombs, in which they dug up niches where the dead were buried in sarcophagi or urns. Recognition of Christianity by the Edict of Milan in 313 b.c. by Constantine I the Great, Old Christian architecture began to develop significantly. Christians needed the gather, and as their numbers grew, they first used old, large dwelling houses, and gradually Christian basilicas began to be built to meet the needs of large congregations.
Christian sacred architecture includes Christian symbols that have a deeper religious meaning. They present a connection with God and exist in written or figural representation. The cross placed on the top of the towers means the sacrifice of Christ for the whole world. The individual parts of Christian architectural buildings have a particular meaning, e.g. the vault of heaven is symbolized by the dome, which often depicts birds, stars, angels or Jesus Christ, or Saints who symbolically ascend to heaven.
