You don't have to be one of the most romantic people under the sun to perceive the importance of even the smallest details and details related to the wedding ceremony. We are talking about the celebration of the sealing of the love of two people, we are talking about the promise of love and fidelity to the grave.
Although the term devaluation belongs mainly to economics, we can easily use it even when we talk about love. Sometimes it really seems as if the word love is losing its value. We are defining love the wrong way sometimes.
About love
Love is sometimes confused with enchantment or falling in love. However, these are just the first steps on the path to love, if we mean romantic love or partnership. But let's get it straight. Our language knows only one word to express love, but other languages offer more. For example, such Greek distinguishes up to three or four words for its expression. Well, it's the language of ancient philosophers...
The Greek word eros expresses love as passion, as carnal lust. It is a lustful love; it expresses a bodily desire for someone. The desire to seize the body of another. It is a love that wants to conquer. Eros is also a mythological character of the Greek god of love, who in turn traditional Roman mythology knows as Cupid. Eros is an image of fertile, life-giving power.
The second Greek term for love is the word phileo. We know it, for example, from the etymology of the word philosophy, because this term literally means "love of wisdom." Traditionally, the word phileo means friendly love or affection within family ties, but it can also express partner love. We could translate phileo as “to like”.
Third, Greek linguistics offers us storgé, which is a Greek word for expressing emotional affection and caring love for one's loved ones.
And as a final expression, we mention the expression of love as an attitude of unconditional favour and dedication to others. We are already talking about agape, which is an image of giving and sacrificing love, such as the love of parents for their children.
Yes, love takes many forms. Of course, physical attraction is necessary for partner love. But would it be enough for a long and happy marriage by itself? You know the answer very well. Therefore, let us present ourselves with agape - love that makes a person able to give himself to another. Mother Teresa, who deserved admiration around the world for her work for the poor and sick, said these words: True love must hurt. For many, these words are incomprehensible. Why should love hurt? After all, it is supposed to bring joy and happiness to a human being, isn't it? After all, love is supposed to bring happiness, not pain! Sure, it's all true. But still, a long-term relationship is not possible without sacrifice. Without forgetting own ideas and plans for the happiness of the others and being able to accept views, ideas and desires of others. Love simply means giving yourself to one another. And it's not easy and it really costs effort or "it hurts," as Mother Teresa said.
About marriage
Marriage is undoubtedly a unique example of a long-term partnership. It was once understood as a lifelong union of man and woman. Today, however, when the reality of life also brings about the breakdown of marriages, not every marriage will last a lifetime. However, even today, a person entering into marriage longs for his marriage to last for the rest of his life. Therefore, marriage, at least as an ideal that we desire, remains a lifelong union till today.
Marriage is formed by exchanging of consent, of mutual respect, love and loyalty of both fiancés, called marriage vow. The wedding ring, which the newlyweds exchange at the wedding ceremony, is also a symbol of the desire for the marriage to last. It is no coincidence that it has the shape of a circle, a shape without interruption. The circle is a sign of eternity.
The wedding ceremony and wedding reception are therefore carefully prepared to the smallest detail for a long time. The desire of the newlyweds is that on the wedding day everything will radiate the sincere love of the couple and their desire that their love will last until death.
